PULSE at Toneheim

We were thrilled to collaborate with Toneheim Field Band, supporting our South African participants from Field Band Foundation for their final year concert. This experience also allowed us to share the PULSE story, all the different projects we offer to the schools, and inspire current students to also consider our exchange program. We encouraged them to seize the opportunity, explore new cultures, and a global music community
We experienced a heartwarming reunion with teachers Morten Sanner and Ellen Neverdal, both Band Crossing Borders(BCB) Alumni. They shared their pride in seeing former exchange students return to support the next generation. Morten highlighted the significance of South African participants giving back, while Ellen noted how Toneheim becomes a home for musicians across the years
A Growing Legacy
Morten and Ellen’s reflections, combined with our own stories, underscored PULSE’s legacy of shared experience, support, and cross-border connections. This experience reinforced the program’s value and inspired the next generation of musicians
From 74% to 100%: Manger Folkehogskole Meets South African Brass
Our team had the pleasure of working with the Manger Folkehogskole to deliver an outstanding performance at the European Brass Band Competition. We are grateful for the opportunity and share our passion for music.
What happens when Norwegian Brass meets South African groove? Magic! The story begins with ”The 74”- A humorous self-assessment by the Manger Folkehogskole band after their first attempt at playing a South African piece. With just three rehearsals, they transformed unfamiliar rhythms and melodies into something

The Journey
The Band’s dedication went beyond technical precision; they sought to capture the emotional essence of the music. Their curiosity and passion were inspiring, and the collaboration became a testament to the power of music to bridge cultures.
A Fruitful Partnership
Gift (PULSE og Manger Conductor)shared how much he enjoyed collaborating with Manger and even suggested that it should become a long-term partnership. The band members were energized by the sessions by PULSE team sessions, and it was inspiring to witness how open they were to exploring a new musical world. Special thanks to Siri (PULSE Alumni) for bringing the South African vibe to life, despite being 100% Norwegian! Wooooow
PULSE Team Shines at The EM Brass Competitions
Performing on the big outdoor stage was exhilarating! We had a blast participating in various activities, including bucket shows where we invited the audience to join in and have fun. It was fantastic to see everyone laughing and playing together.

We had the opportunity to perform with young, talented youth from Stavanger who participated in one of the programs we offer, which is Fast Track. Seeing their energy and enthusiasm was infectious—everyone was ready to rock. The vibe in EM Brass? From the buzz backstage to the energy on stage, every moment felt alive. Laughter, nerves, music everywhere, it was the kind of atmosphere that reminds you why we love doing this.
Stay tuned for more updates, performances, and stories from our journey. We can’t wait to share what’s next
